Children

Mission Statement

The mission of the Beverly Heights Children’s Ministries is to partner with families as they help their children develop as disciples of Jesus Christ through the disciplines of worship, Scripture study, prayer, evangelism, stewardship, service and fellowship in order that they might:

KNOW Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord;
GROW in their faith as disciples of Jesus Christ, and
GO into the world representing Jesus Christ.

Vision

Children's lives changed through the love of Christ as they come to know Him personally as Savior and Lord.

Sunday Morning

Care is provided for children birth through eighteen months in our Baby Nursery on Sunday mornings from 8:30 to 12:15, staffed by a consistent experienced caregiver who is assisted by volunteers.

Children eighteen months through three years, the WalkAbouts, are encouraged to begin the worship service in the pew with their families at each worship service, however, their room is staffed weekly from 8:30 to 12:15 and loving caregivers are ready to welcome them at any point . Prior to the sermon, children remaining in the sanctuary are dismissed to their class. During our Christian Education hour at 10:00 AM, the WalkAbouts children have their Bible lesson and activities with Faith Alive “God Loves Me” curriculum.

Children three years through pre-kindergarten, the RunAbouts, begin the worship service in the pew with their families at each worship service. Prior to the sermon, children are dismissed to their class. At 10:00 AM during the Christian Education hour, RunAbouts will use the "What's in the Bible?" curriculum for their Sunday School class.

Children kindergarten through third grade begin worship in the sanctuary with their families and are dismissed prior to the sermon for Kingdom Korner with weekly volunteers. The "Sermons4Kids" curriculum includes a weekly scripture verse, lesson, and additional activities.

Children fourth grade and up remain in the sanctuary with their parents for the entire service. During the sermon, they are invited to make use of the children’s bags located at the entrances of our sanctuary.

At 10:00 AM during our Christian Education hour, children kindergarten through 5th grade attend age appropriate FaithWalk Sunday School classes on the A- and C-levels and are taught using Faith Alive “Dwell” Sunday School curriculum.

“DWELL Sunday school curriculum encourages kids to pause and wonder, imagine, and interact with different parts of God’s Story. And as they do, they’ll discover that God is still at work in the world and in their lives. DWELL can awaken kids to God’s invitation to find their own place in his story, to live into and out of it for the rest of their lives.”

Children's Choir

About:

First Song Choir is a training choir for children ages 4 and 5, through the Kindergarten year. This choir prepares children for advancement into the New Song Choir. It gives the young child the opportunity to experiment with music in a safe environment where singing, movement, finger play, and beginning reading of notation is introduced. The emphasis is on training with this group. Singing with a clear pure sound is encouraged which is introduced through solfege, appealing children’s songs, folk songs, story songs, traditional, and contemporary Christian children’s repertoire. Thresholds to Music Charts are used for instruction in music reading. They perform one or two times a year, one of which is on Christmas Eve at the children’s service.

New Song Choir is a choir trained to lead in worship through anthems, hymns, carols and contemporary Christian music. Learning to read music is emphasized as well as producing pleasing choral sound, singing in tune, and pitch matching. An emphasis in this choir is familiarity with the traditional hymns of the church the composers, and backgrounds. Children learn age appropriate anthems as well as contemporary pieces which are offered in the worship services approximately every six weeks. Instruction is given in the parts of the worship service and how they as a choir can aid the congregation in worship.

Tone Chimes is offered to children Grade 3- Grade 5. The emphasis in this group is music reading, learning to follow the musical line, playing in an ensemble and becoming a good team member loyal to the tone chime group. Commitment for the entire year is important as each player is responsible for their two chimes. Students play at various times but usually during Advent to accompany the candle lighting music.

All children of Beverly Heights Church and friends are invited to participate in these programs. Parents are encouraged to enroll their children for the entire choir year so that the child may have the full benefit of singing the music of each season. Children who wish to sing on Christmas Eve must enroll in September and be regular in attendance leading up to Christmas.

Wednesday Night Heights

For 10 to 12 weeks each fall and spring, children ages 4 through 5th grade are invited to attend activities as part of our Wednesday Night Heights program. From 4:00p.m. until 5:30, children enjoy snacks, games, fellowship, outdoor play (weather permitting), children’s choir, books, crafts, puppets and more to learn about the Bible truth presented for that day. At 5:45, parents pick up their children from their various activity sites and are then invited to join the rest of the Beverly height’s church family in the church Social Room where dinner is served for a nominal fee.

While children enjoy their programming, adults may choose to volunteer in the kitchen or dining room to help with dinner prep, to assist with the various children’s programs, or for women, a Bible study meets during that time period. For those attending the Bible study or volunteering in the kitchen or children’s programs, childcare is available upon request.

Little Seedlings (Old Mom's Day Out Program)

Little Seedlings Mission Statement

The Little Seedlings mission is to provide a safe environment of care and Christian love to children ages 18 months to 5 years while offering a break as a service, an outreach, and a fellowship opportunity to the mothers involved; both from the church family and the wider community.

Our program began as a ministry to the young moms in our church, to give them a few hours a week just for themselves, and has since been opened up to provide service for families within our community. The program runs from 8:30AM-12:30PM, Monday - Friday certain times of the year.

In the Fall, Winter and Spring sessions, we take children ages 18 months - preschool (3).  All of our teachers have all clearances, many years of experience, and plenty of love for the little ones in their care. Contact Sarah Chace at to learn more.

Children's Resources

We are thankful to have an extensive number of books, videos and games available in our Children’s Library and we are happy to share them with our Beverly height’s families and friends. We trust that you will fill out a library card, leave the book card on the desk for any material you borrow, and return the books as soon as you are finished with them for the enjoyment of others. We do ask that the games provided in the library remain there for your use in the building.

Additionally, in both the children and adult libraries, you’ll find some wonderful parenting books and materials. You are welcome to sign those out as well.

We are happy to make our playground space available to our friends and community members when it is not in use for Beverly height’s Children’s programming. A smaller playground is available for younger children, too. Please do not allow your pets on the playground.
